Effective storybook reading is an interactive process. Taking time to discuss and clarify difficult concepts during the reading session can improve comprehension and develop, and interest in the story. Children learn that understanding text is a process that occurs before, during, and after reading.
Preview the book and practice reading it.
Introduce the title, author, and illustration.
Tell briefly what the story is about.
Hold the books so your child can see the words
and illustrations.
Vary your tone, volume, and pitch as you read.

Pause occasionally to explain, comment, or look at
the illustrations.
Discuss the characters and what happened in the story.
Help your child relate the story to something personal or another story.
Goals vary by ability so make sure you know what the goal is for your child and if your child will be reading with you as a partner or independently.
Goals are verified by the teacher. Find out if there is a tracking
sheet to use and when it is due.
Read as a family - at the same time and in the same place
every night.Be a role model for your child - make sure they see you reading
and know that you read for both information and pleasure.
Praise your child for reaching the goal - tell them how proud you
are of their accomplishment!
